Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) is one of the most widespread branches of
numerical simulation. The purpose of CFD is to numerically solve the equations that
govern the behavior of fluids, the Navier Stokes equations, which have no analytical
solution. The evolution of the CFD has been such that now a days it allows to simulate
a multitude of phenomena related to fluid mechanics: multiphase flows, turbulence,
mass and energy transfer, transport and reaction of chemical compounds in a fluid,
etc.

Due to the continuous verification of the data obtained by CFD for a large number of
problems, the CFD has now consolidated itself as a robust and reliable tool in most of
the problems of fluid mechanics that are carried out in engineering. It has become an
indispensable tool for large companies dealing with fluids: it has carved a niche in
automotive design, accelerating and cheapening aerodynamic design; it is used in the
design of NASA rockets, etc.
